Description: This scene depicts the famous poet and compiler of the Ogura Hyakunin Isshu, Fujiwara no Teika, falling asleep on the veranda of the Sumiyoshi Shrine. The shrine was devoted to the patron deity of poets, and according to tradition, while Teika slept, he dreamt of deity visiting him in the form of a ghostly old man.

1) The painting: “Emblem of Twin Capricorn” is a major artwork from Takato Yamamoto.
The artist spent almost ten years to perfect it in his style.

His other three major artworks were sold by Sotheby’s in 2010 reaching over 60,000 US$ and over 30,000 US$ each in 2012 and 2014.
A painter from Akita Prefecture, Takato Yamamoto (b. 1960) graduated from the painting department of Tokyo Zokei University. He is known for his unique style of painting, which he calls the "Ukiyo-e Pop Style" and its further development, the "Heisei Aestheticism."
He is a member of the Tokyo Illustrators Society and the International Ukiyo-e Society.
2) Mitsuo Kaji is a multi-talented artist in jewelry, paintings and singing.
“The Great Ashoka Diamond,” -a 21.75 carat ring he designed- garnered prominent international attention as it was sold at Christies
in 2023 close to 4,000,000 US$.
